Workbench Update 0309
A quick snapshot of my workbench showing lots of miniatures in various stages of finished beginning … With the Golden Demon just around the corner I am trying hard to get into a Games Workshop frame of mind, but … Read Full Post >>
Workbench Update 0209
Time to let you have another glimpse at my workbench.
As you can see two BattleMechs are nearing completion – the Liberator and the Mackie. No changes on the Liberator since update 0109, but I am busy working on the Mackie. Still a lot of work left, but is almost time for the best part – the fine detail work. Adding wear and tear to the paint, scratches, numbers, signs, warning stripes, … all the little details which make the miniature come alive.
The Mackie is truly a unique miniature. This cast was released by a fan organisation – MechForce UK – a few years back and while it is lacking the finesse of an industry produced sculpt it has a lot of character in my opinion. Actually the overall clumsiness and roughness of the miniature fits well with its role in the BattleTech universe. Fluff-wise the Mackie is a venerable design, it was the first BattleMech ever produced.
Workbench Update 0109
What I want to do more often is let you take a glimpse at my workbench or one of my current projects. I do believe this is a good way to get some feedback for my current work and hopefully also helps me to finish certain projects more dutifully instead of always starting new miniatures …
For my first workbench update in 2009 I let you take a peak at an almost finished projects – the Liberator BattleMech. The Liberator is a kitbash by AvaMangoTwo and I am painting this miniature for him. As you can see the miniature is almost finished, just some small details left to do. The plan is to add more markings and signs, especially to the back. Also some details need some cleaning up and the base will be painted. There will be another Mech painted in this scheme – a Mackie BattleMech – rounding out a formidable Heavy Lance consisting of Ventilator, Alliance, Liberator and Mackie.
Back in black
Or almost black at least. After hearing some comments that the latest colors were too light and not really fitting for a site titled darklined I decided to create a negative version (more or less …) of the previous theme. Next up on the To-Do list: create or implement a theme switcher so you can decide whether you want to see darklined light or darklined dark.
I have been on vacation for the last (almost) three weeks. We have been to South Africa for our honeymoon and we had a fantastic time. South Africa is a beautiful country and the people are very warm and friendly. But it wasn’t all holiday – my wife convinced me to bring some paints and a miniature along and I actually managed to squeeze in about an hour of “work” starting to paint Heinz Stargazer. Heinz Stargazer is a Reaper miniature and a fantastic sculpt if you want to practice your blending. Will I ever finish him? Well, to be honest I don’t know, but it sure was an unbelievable experience to paint under the sun of Africa while Warthogs and Kudus were passing by only meters away
