Another Spyglass miniature and the next Painting Crusade

On November, 1st 2008 in Miscellaneous, New Miniatures

Currently most of my painting time is dedicated to finishing a few BattleTech miniatures which have been on my table for way too long. But for some reason I needed a stress relief and decided to tackle a Spyglass miniature – meet Hurk the Noblin. Hurk was released in a limited run of only 200 copies and standing a mere 19mm tall to the top of his head not exactly a giant. A fun miniature to paint and another fantastic sculpt by Steve Buddle.

On another note, Quentin, the webmaster of the Belgian Dogs of War dropped me a mail announcing the next Painting Crusade. Edition VI will be on February, 7th-8th in Brussels. Again the guest list is an impressive who is who in miniature painting: David Waeselynck, Mathieu Lalain, Richard Poisson and Patrick Corhay. Definitely an event to keep an eye on.

Games Day Germany 2008 …

On July, 27th 2008 in Miscellaneous, New Miniatures

… was today. And overall it was a terrific event. However the weather was definitely too hot. Although the Golden Demon competition had noticeably fewer entries this year, the overall quality was excellent as always. Very strong categories (in my opinion at least) were 40k Single, Duel, Large Scale and Diorama. The Slayer Sword went to Ben Komets for his 54mm scale diorama – a well deserved win in my opinion. Congratulations Ben!

As always it was nice to meet so many like minded people, old and new friends, and chat about the hobby. I have taken several pictures and once I sort through them I will post a few on the site. Meanwhile I have added my humble contribution to the Golden Demon to the Games Workshop gallerySergeant Centurius of the Legion of the Damned. Of course I had to choose probably the toughest category of the day for my entry …

Mini-Art-Con 2008

On March, 11th 2008 in Miscellaneous

Last Saturday was the Mini-Art-Con 2008 in Mühlheim in Germany and what an amazing event it was! I estimate there were about 300 visitors not counting the exhibitors.

Mini-Art-Con

It was great to meet so many like-minded people and spend a whole day discussing the best hobby in the world. Thanks to all the people of MaxPaint and of course my friends Gerrie and Jasper of Pendragon Studios – it was a blast meeting all of you. And then there was the Red Devil Contest … what can I say … there were around 200 entries and the quality was just overwhelming. One could easily get lost just staring at the cabinets discovering all the fantastic entries and taking in all the details of the miniatures and dioramas. Read Full Post >>

Painting Crusade review

On February, 19th 2008 in Miscellaneous

Well, it is about time that I write a short review about the Painting Crusade V

Together with Sven of Vulture’s Miniatures I visited the convention on Febuary 10th. Luckily Brussels is just a two hour trip by car and the location is easy to find. And what a location it is! The Painting Crusade takes place in an old church … very stylish and the perfect setting for a painting competition featuring fantastic miniatures.

Speaking of the competition – this was the highest quality competition I have ever attended so far. The quality of most entries was breathtaking with lots of well known painters from Belgium and France participating. Just to look (and drool …) at all the entries was well worth the trip.

Unfortunately we didn’t win anything, but this was hardly a surprise considering the overall quality. At least I am even more motivated for next year.

To get an impression what the event was like take a look at Sven’s Picasa Gallery. As soon as I find the time I will update this post with a few of my own pictures, so stay tuned … more to come.
